  15. Never disregard your gut instinct. It is usually right
  16. Try as much street food as you can. It is cheap and delicious
  17. If needed, pay for a private room. It doesn’t have to be fancy and you will gain back your sanity
  18. Practice safe sex ladies! Yep, good old condoms!

  20. You can go without makeup
  21. Don’t be afraid to learn about yourself
  22. Respect the local culture
  23. Always drink plenty of water

  29. It’s ok to lie. Example – my boyfriend is back at the hotel, in the shops, etc
  30. Leave a copy of your itinerary with a family member
  31. Don’t forget to call back home to let them know you’re safe
  32. Eating alone isn’t so bad
  33. Going for a drink alone isn’t so bad
  34. Sometimes you can’t help it, but try to arrive at your destination during daylight hours
  35. Take in the world around you. People watching can be the best pastime
  36. Organised tours can be fun if the proper research is done. Read reviews online and don’t let anyone push you into a tour
  37. Always make sure your important items are safe
  38. Embrace the selfie stick. You get great photos with these things

  40. A good book is a must
  41. Take out travel insurance. I prefer World Nomads
  42. An over the shoulder handbag draws less attention than a backpack. Make sure it has a long strap and keep it in front of your body, so you can see it at all times
  43. If your going out, know the address of your hostel. Write it down somewhere you won’t lose it
  44. If you get lost, stay calm. Head to the nearest shop or cafe to get your map or phone out
  45. Never lose sight of your bags
  46. It’s ok to let loose, but try not to get too plastered. Don’t waste the next day hung-over as fuck
  47. Confidence is key. Even if you don’t feel it, fake it till you make it baby!
  48. Your first night is the worst. The next morning is a new day, keep your chin up and be brave
  49. Being nervous is totally normal. You can do this!
  50. Enjoy every moment
  51. Have as much fun as you like. This is your trip, embrace it!
