Beyond The Famous 5th Ave In Playa Del Carmen

When in Playa Del Carmen, it’s easy to get caught up in the atmosphere that is the famous Avenida 5. Try and break yourself away from the Avenida 5 bubble and explore other areas. Go for a walk and get lost down some of the other streets. This is exactly what I did when I felt I was having to much of a love affair with the famous 5th Avenue.

What I discovered when I walked around for the day exploring the other streets, was an array of hole in the wall restaurants, friendly locals, lots of cheap street food and side streets leading to less quieter areas of the beach.

I felt safe when I was walking around and would highly recommend it. I wouldn’t do it of a night but during the day is fine. You walk around a whole different world from 5th Ave and you can see why Mexico is such a popular destination for Americans and Canadians. Don’t be afraid to get lost and go on a little adventure!

Where To Eat

Less pricier than 5th Avenue. Always a bonus!

Vista Al Mar
Drool, Nachos!! These nachos were just plain yum. Meals ranging from 50 Pesos – 150 Pesos ($4 – $12) and super friendly service.

Bio Natural Organica
I only had a juice here, so I can’t comment on the food. I did take a peak at my neighbours lunch, he caught me out and said the food was the best. It did look pretty decent. My juice was 55 Pesos ($4.) The food started at 50 Pesos – 180 Pesos ($4 – $13.)

Taco Stands
I wish I had known about this little local secret from the start. A taco sets sets you back 20 Pesos ($1.50) and a burrito 35 Pesos ($2.60.) If you can find the Ado bus station on 5th, turn right and keep walking straight for about 5 minutes. You will come an open park area and there you will find the taco stands.
